Awareness programme on Fertilizer Application

Chandel, 22/10/2019:

One day Awareness programme on Fertilizer Application was conducted at KVK Chandel on 22nd October, 2019. The programme was organised by KVK Chandel to make aware the farmers regarding scientific used of fertilizer and to double their production and income. The live webcast which was addressed jointly by Hon’ble Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India, New Delhi and Shri Sadanand Godda Hon’ble Ministerof Chemical and Fertilizer, Govt. of India, New Delhi was also shown to the farmers. Flim show on balance use of fertilizer was also shown to the farmer in coinciding with the programme. Altogether 58 farmers attended the programme besides the staff of KVK Chandel.

Stakeholders Meeting under the project entitled Scaling Out Climate-Smart Agriculture for Resilient Farming in India organised

Chandel 24/09/2019:The Stakeholders Meeting-cum-Workshop on CSA Evaluation and Prioritization under the project “Scaling Out Climate-Smart Agriculture for Resilient Farming in India” was organized today, the 24th September, 2019 at Conference Hall, KVK Chandel. The meeting was chaired by Shri Krishna Kumar, IAS Deputy Commissioner Chandel in presence of Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Bandyopadhyay, Head – Centre of Environment Science & Climate Resilient Agriculture, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Pusa, New Delhi, Dr  B. C. Deka, Director ICAR-ATARI-Zone-VII, Umiam, Barapani, Meghalaya; Dr. N. Prakash, Joint Director, ICAR Manipur Centre, Imphal, Prof. R. K Saha, Director Extension Education, CAU Imphal; and Dr. S. Prabhu Kumar, Former Director, ATARI, Ludhiana. The Chief Guest, Shri Krishna Kumar, IAS urged all the stakeholders to participate sincerely and wholeheartedly and to come out with a climate-smart plan so as to enable to double the farmers’ income by 2022. He expected a realistic and practical plan for Chandel district which will be replicated in other districts also.  It is worth mentioning that KVK Chandel is among the 11 KVKs selected in the country for the project “Scaling Out Climate-Smart Agriculture for Resilient Farming in India” and the only district in the north-east India. Dr. N. Prakash assured of all possible technological support and assistance to implement this project successfully. Dr. S. Prabhu Kumar emphasised on the need for implementing this programme on convergence mode in partnership with all the concerned Departments in the district. Prof. R. K. Saha stated that this project is taken up promptly. He also opined that improved farming systems, research and extension should go hand-in-hand. The farmers of the district have been practicing indigenous farming techniques since centuries which need to be documented and validated. Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Bandyopadhyay explained the intricate details of the project to the stakeholders present in the meeting. Later, a workshop was conducted for Climate Smart Agriculture Evaluation and Prioritization of the project, in which Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Bandyopadhyay and stakeholders interacted and discussed about possible plans for the project.

The programme was attended by District Level Officers, NGOs, 20 Progressive Farmers from the three blocks – Chandel, Khengjoy and Chakpikarong of Chandel District and staffs of KVK, Chandel.

Tree Plantation programme cum Krishak Goshthi conducted

Chandel, 17/09/2019: Tree Plantation cum Krishak Goshthi was organised at Modi Village, Chandel on 17/09/2019. The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner, Chandel Shri Krishna Kumar, IAS, KL John Mota, Chief of Modi Village and Dr. Deepak Singh, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Chandel as presidium members. 1000  sapling were distributed to the farmers. Tree plantation as well as awareness on importance of tree plantation and its ecological balance was also conducted with the experts of KVK Chandel. Later, an interaction programme was also organised between subject experts and the farmers on the occasion. 123 farmers from the village and staff of KVK Chandel attended the programme.

Launching programme of National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP), National Artificial Insemination Programme (NAIP) and Swachhta Hi Sewa by PM Narendra Modi

Chandel, 12th September, 2019: In line with the launching programme of National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP), National Artificial Insemination Programme (NAIP) and Swachhta Hi Sewa by PM Narendra Modi at Mathura, Uttar Pradesh to eliminate Foot and Mouth Disease of domesticated animals, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Chandel also launched the same programme held at the Conference Hall of KVK Chandel, Monsang Pantha village in Chandel District today.

The launching programme was attended by ADC Chandel member Sh Manglem Monsang as chief guest; Joint Director Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Chandel Dr Kh Surchandra Singh as guest of honour and Senior Scientist and Head KVK Chandel Dr Deepak Singh as functional president.

As a part of the programme, ACTO – Animal Science KVK Chandel Dr Asem Ameeta Devi delivered the keynote speech regarding the programme and live telecast of the launching of NADCP and NAIP by the Prime Minister were shown to the farmers.

Later, a vaccination drive of domesticated animal were conducted and led by Dr. A. Ameeta Devi and Dr. Samery Anal, District Veterinary Officer  in the KVK premise.

ACTO – Agronomy KVK Chandel KL Levish Chongloi, ACTO – Plant Breeding Leenda Monsang, Technical Officer (Computer) D Doungel, Technical Officer (Farm) Kamei Super, Personal Assistant Ramesh Monsang among others were also present in the programme.

Jal Shakti Abhiyan Conducted at Modi


Chandel 07/08/2019: Jal Shakti Abhiyan Mela was conducted at Modi village, Chandel Block today. The programme was attended by Chief of Modi Kl. John and 41 farmers from the village. ACTO (Agronomy) Dr. Kl. Levish Chongloi and ACTO (Plant Breeding) Ts. Leenda Monsang of KVK Chandel have a brief discussion and interaction with the farmers on the campaigned of Jal Shakti Abhiyan launched by the Government of India. The campaigned focus on five aspects — water conservation and rainwater harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, reuse of water and recharging of structures, watershed development, and intensive afforestation. Krishi Vigyan Kendra Mela is organised to promote efficient water use for irrigation and better crop choices. During the programme, awareness on water scarcity and efficient use of water were stressed and the need of drip irrigation and sprinkler irrigation for cultivation of field crops were also emphasised to cope with water scarcity.  Staff of KVK Chandel also attended the programme.

A programme on Capacity Building and Input Distribution programme on “Scientific cultivation on High yielding varieties of rice, rice bean, blackgram under rainfed condition for doubling farmers’ income under NEH component was conducted today at KVK Chandel. The programme was sponsored by ICAR-Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology, Ranchi (Jharkhand) and implemented in collaboration with KVK Chandel. The programme was attended by Shri Krishna Kumar, IAS Deputy Commissioner Chandel; Dr. Tilak R. Sharma, Director, ICAR-Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology, Ranchi (Jharkhand); Dr. Vijai Pal Bhadana, Nodal Officer & Pr. Scientist (Genetics & Plant Breeding), ICAR-Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology, Ranchi (Jharkhand) and Dr. I.M Singh, Joint Director, ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Manipur Centre as Chief Guest, Guests of Honour and Functional President respectively.

In the technical session, S. Gunamani Singh, SMS (Plant Breeding), KVK Imphal West spoke on package and practices of rice seed production while Dr. N. Johnson Singh, SMS (Plant Protection), KVK Churachandpur spoke on Insect pest management on rice, rice bean and rajma.

The programme was also attended by Ts. Gladney Monsang, District Agriculture Officer, staff of KVK Chandel and farmers from different blocks of the district. Various inputs were also distributed to the farmers.

Two days training on maize cultivation ensure food, feed and fodder concluded

Chandel 26/03/2019: Two days training on maize cultivation ensure food, feed and fodder was concluded today. It was conducted from 25-26/03/2019 at KVK Chandel. The programme was organised by KVK Chandel in collaboration with Indian Institute of Maize Research, PAU Campus, Ludhiana, Punjap. 85 farmers from different villages of Chandel District attended the training programme. The resource persons were Pravina SRF, ICAR Manipur center, Imphal and spoke on scientific cultivation of maize for enhancing the income and Dr. Khumlo Levish spoke on intercropping of maize with Rajma. Inputs like HQPM -Maize seed and Rajma seeds were given to the farmers.

Six days Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) on Mushroom Production Techniques conducted

Chandel 26/03/2019: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chandel in collaboration with National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE) Hyderabad and State Agricultural Management & Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) Manipur concluded the Six days Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) on “Mushroom Production Techniques” which was held during 20th to 25th March 2019. The valedictory function was attended by Dr. Khumlo Levis, ACTO (Agronomy), Dr. Th. Motilal Singh ACTO (Agri. Exten), Chief of Kolen Mrs.Sng. Shanghring and chief of Panchai village Shri. L. Rungam. Certificates and inputs for growing mushrooms were also distributed to participants after completion of the training course. Altogether 31 Rural Youths from surrounding villages attended the training course.

Six days Skill Training of Rural Youth on Post-Harvest processing and packaging of foods and vegetables conducted

Chandel, 21/03/2019: The six days “STRY (Skill Training of Rural Youth) on Post-Harvest processing and packaging of foods and vegetables” concluded on today 21/03/2019  at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Chandel. The skill training was organized by KVK Chandel in collaboration with National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management and SAMETI, Manipur. The inaugural programme on date 16/03/2019 was attended by Sh. Manglem Monsang, MDC, Autonomous District Council, Chandel; Ts. Behari Monsang, Chief, Monsang Pantha Village, Chandel and Dr. Deepak Singh, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Chandel as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and President respectively.  The programme has benefited 28 rural youths of the district.

Three days Skill development Training Programme on “Microbe based Technologies for soil health and plant nutrition” conducted

Chandel 20/03/2019:  Three days Skill development Training Programme on “Microbe based Technologies for soil health and plant nutrition” was conducted from 18 – 20/03/2019  at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chandel conference hall. The programme was sponsored by National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Microorganisms, MAU, UP. The inaugural programme was attended by   Dr. Chinglenkhomba Meitei, MCS. Addl. Dy. Commissioner, Chandel; Dr. P.K. Sharma, Principle Scientist and Dr. Hillol Chakdar, Scientist of NBIAM, MAU, UP, and Dr. N. Prakash, Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam were the Chief Guest, Guest of Honours and President respectively. In the inaugural session, Dr Chinglenkhomba Meitei, MCS. Addl. Dy. Commissioner, Chandel stated that Chandel district is one of the aspirational districts listed in the country. He urged the people of this district to extract maximum benefits from the vast knowledge of various experts coming from different corners of the country during this training programme. The localities of this region should keen interest in such skill imparting programme, which can be used for doubling their incoming. Dr. N. Prakash, Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam urged the farmers to take active participation in such kind of skill development training and assured the farmers to provide new technologies for using microbes in agriculture and possible technical support from ICAR institute of this region. Dr. P.K. Sharma, Principle Scientist, NBIAM, MAU (UP) highlighted the ill-effects of jhum cultivation prevalent in hilly regions. The hilly region of north-east regions, by default, follows organic agriculture due to perpetually no use of chemical inputs in crop production. Here, farmers can explore the benefits of several beneficial microbes like bio-pesticides for pest management and bio-fertilizers for seed treatment and soil application making their soils more fertile and productive.  The welcome speech was given by Dr. Deepak Singh, Sr. Scientist & Head while vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. K. Sonamani Singh, ACTO (Agril. Engg.). The  skill training programmes was attended by 300 farmers and staff of KVK Chandel.
