Chandel, 26/04/2022: ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra Chandel, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Government of India in association with ATMA Chandel District organized a District Level Kisan Mela “Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari Campaign” under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav today. The Kisan Mela was attended by line departments, FPOs and SHGs. The Mela was inaugurated and graced by SS Olish, MLA, Chandel; DB Ringo, Chairman Autonomous District Council, Chandel; Vijay Kanthale Sahebrao, IFS, DFO/ Chandel Forest Division; Ts. Gladney Monsang, DAO Chandel; Dr. Y. Prabhabati Devi, Head i/c ICAR-KVK Chandel as Chief Guest, Guests of Honour, Organising Secretary and President respectively.
During the inaugural session Dr. Y. Prabhabati Devi welcomed the dignitaries and farmers and highlighted the District Level Kisan Mela “Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari Campaign” under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to the audience. Vijay Kanthale Sahebrao during his speech urged the farmers to put into practice the advanced technologies promoted by the KVK. He also urged the farmers for adopting high value crops like mushroom for higher return. D.B. Ringo, the Chairman of Autonomous District Council, Chandel appealed to the farmers to adopt diversified cropping system to maximise the returns. The mono-cropping system is totally outdated and cultivators should be wise enough to put into use the latest farming technologies. SS Olish, Hon’ble MLA, Chandel advocated for developing and concentrating specific crop products which are unique in the district. She also urged the farmers to greatly utilize the privileges received being an aspirational district. And she motivated the farmers to seriously take up weaving as an alternative source of income and also approach the concerned line departments for necessary raw materials and marketing facilities.
In coinciding with the Kisan Mela programme, an online launching of Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari – Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav by Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar was also witnessed by the audience. He interacted with farmers across the country who were present in Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in towns and cities in various states across India. The purpose of the interaction was to make farmers aware of flagship schemes of Government of India and to assess the achievements and benefits that the farmers are gaining at the grassroots.
Thereafter a farmer-scientist interaction meet was also held in which many farmers participated enthusiastically. This was followed by a technical session on Millets, Oilseeds and Bio-fortified crops with KVK experts as resource persons. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Ts. Gladney Monsang, DAO Chandel. The kisan mela was attended by 220 farmers along with the dignitaries and staff of line departments.
