Five days Training cum Demonstration on Post harvest management and value addition of fruits and vegetables was launched today at KVK Chandel. The programme was organized by KVK Chandel and sponsored by CTRI, Rajahmundry. The training was inaugurated by Sh. Manglem Monsang, former MDC, 11th Pantha, Chandel Autonomous District Council. In his speech Sh. Manglem Monsang encourage the farmers to adopt the scientific method taught by experts on ash gourd cultivation and its processing and value addition for generating income. Dr. A. Ameeta Devi, Head in-charge of ICAR-KVK Chandel requested the farmers to participate the training till the last day of the five day training to gain knowledge on post harvest management and value addition of fruits and vegetables which are locally available in the district and while Dr. Y. Prabhabati Devi, SMS (Home Science) gave the keynote address.
In the technical session, P. Surbala Devi, Asst. Prof. Govt. Polytechnique College, Tura spoke on Processing and value addition of ash gourd and preparation of ash gourd jam. The training was attended by 20 farmers and staff of KVK Chandel.






In the second session, Ts. Gladney Monsang, District Agriculture Officer, Chandel and Ng. Barbara President Women Development Society, Monsang Pantha Village graced the function as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour respectively in the International Women’s Day celebration at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chandel. Dr. Y. Prabhabati Devi, SMS (Home Science.) welcomed the dignitaries, students and the Farm Women.
She gave the keynote address on International Women’s Day. During the function, prizes were also distributed to the students for debate competition on Women Empowerment. 7 women entrepreneurs were also felicitated on the occasion.

During the programme, nutri-thali from locally available fruits and vegetables of different ethnic groups were developed. Different types of garden such as backyard nutri-garden, terrace garden and vertical garden with different biofortified varieties were popularized for getting all year round good nutrition. Krishak Ghosti for AWW and farm women were organized and nutri-seed kits sponsored by IFFCO were also distributed. Other nutri-seeds and fruits plants were also distributed for the establishment of nutri-garden at AWW centres and at KVK garden too. Package of practices for growing of different nutri-vegetables were also distributed to AWW and farm women. Nutrition gardens were established at Anganwadi centre and KVK farm under POSHAN MAAH celebration.

Dr. Deepak Singh, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Chandel presented the Annual Report 2019 -20, while Action Plan 2020-21 was presented by concern Subject Matter Specialists of the department, wherein valuable feedback and suggestions were taken into consideration and incorporated in the Action Plan. In total, 29 stakeholders including farmer representatives have attended the meeting.
