15th Scientific Advisory Meeting

Chandel, 10th February, 2020: The 15th Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting was conducted today at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chandel. The meeting was attended by Dr. A. Chinglenkhomba Meetei, MCS, Addl. Deputy Commissioner/Project Director, DRDA; Dr. N. Prakash, Joint Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre; Dr. Kh. Surchandra Singh, Joint Director, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, Chandel; Dr. Dipak Nath, Dy. Director, CAU- Extension Education, Imphal; Ts Gladny Monsang, District Agriculture Officer, Chandel; Dr. Deepak Singh, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Chandel; Dr. Y. Rama Krishna, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Ukhrul; Dr. S. Zeshmarani, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Thoubal and Dr. S. Roma Devi, Head i/c, KVK Churachanpur were the presidium members. Dr. Deepak Singh, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Chandel presented the Annual Report 2019 -20, while Action Plan 2020-21 was presented by concern Subject Matter Specialists of the department, wherein valuable feedback and suggestions were taken into consideration and incorporated in the Action Plan. In total, 29 stakeholders including farmer representatives have attended the meeting.

Capacity Building programme on scientific cultivation of high yielding varieties inaugurated

 

Chandel, 31/01/2020:

Two days Capacity Building programme on scientific cultivation of high yielding varieties like rapeseed mustard, lentil and fieldpea under rain fed condition for doubling income was inaugurated today at KVK Chandel. The programme was sponsored by ICAR – Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology, Ranchi. Shri Krishna Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Chandel; Dr. N. Prakash, Joint Director, ICAR – Manipur Centre and Dr. Deepak Singh were the presidium members.

Thereafter the inaugural programme technical session was conducted by KVK experts for the farmers relating to the scientific cultivation of high yielding varieties – rapeseed mustard, lentil and fieldpea under rain fed condition for doubling income. The capacity building programme was attended by 150 farmers from Chandel District and staff of KVK Chandel.

Webcast of Prime Minister speech on Global Potato Conclave

Chandel, 28/01/2020: Webcast of Prime Minister speech on Global Potato Conclave 2020 was conducted by KVKs of Imphal West, Chandel, Ukhrul, Tamenglong and Churachanpur at ICAR RC for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat today with Dr. N. Prakash, Joint Director as the dignitary. 62 farmers from the different district of Manipur attended the programme. Besides, staff of ICAR – KVKs, Manipur also attended the programme. Thereafter the programme, interaction between scientists and farmers was also conducted.

One day Awareness Programme on Cluster Demonstration on Organic Farming under PKVY conducted

Chandel, 11/01/2020:

One day Awareness Programme of Cluster Demonstration on Organic Farming under Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) was conducted today at Bolok Village, Chakpikarong Block in Chandel District. The Programme was organised by KVK Chandel. PKVY is an extended component of Soil Health Management (SHM) under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS), National Mission on Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA). PKVY aims at supporting and promoting organic farming, in turn resulting in improvement of soil health. The programme was launched and initiated to promote organic farming through cluster approach. The objective is to produce agricultural products free from chemicals and pesticides residues by adopting eco-friendly, low-cost technologies. The gathering was briefed on the programmes and activities to be undertaken under PKVY. Training on “Importance of Organic Farming and its practices” and “Own Saved Seed Production for Organic Farming” was also conducted by Dr. Kl. Levish Chongloi, SMS (Agronomy) and Ts. Leenda Monsang, SMS (Plant Breeding) respectively. Later, field visit and group discussion was organised along with the farmers. The programme was attended by Bd. Monishing, Chief of Bolok Village and 52 farmers.

Kisan Mela, National Mushroom Day cum Kisan Mela Conducted

Chandel: 23/12/2019:

Kisan Mela was conducted from 20th – 23th December, 2019 and National Mushroom Day cum Kisan Diwas was also conducted on 23rd December, 2019 at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre with the title Bridging Lab to Land Gap for Doubling the Farmers’ Income. The programme was organized by ICAR – Manipur Centre in collaboration with AICRP Centre on Mushroom, ICAR RC NEHR, Manipur Centre; Agri – Business Incubation Centre, ICAR RC NEHR, Manipur Centre and ICAR – KVK Imphal West, Chandel, Tamenglong, Ukhrul and Churachanpur. Dr. AK Tripathi, Director ATARI – Zone VI, Guwahati, Assam; Dr. Ratan Kumar Saha, Director, Department of Extension and Education, CAU; Kh. Saya Kiran Devi, Director, Directorate of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Govt. of Manipur; Shri. K. Kipgen, Director (Retire), Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Govt. of Manipur; Shri N. One day District Level Workshop on Scientific Cultivation of Coconut conducted

One day District Level Workshop on Scientific Coconut Cultivation/Technology/Value addition was conducted at KVK Chandel today. The programme was organised by Coconut Development Board, Regional Office, Guwahati, Assam and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chandel. The programme was attended by Shri Krishna Kumar, IAS, Dy. Commissioner, Chandel as Chief Guest; Smt. Ts. Gladny Monsang, DAO – Chandel & Shri L. Mohori Singh, DO Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Chandel as Guest of Honour; Dr. N. Prakash, Joint Director, ICAR – Manipur Centre as Functional President and Shri Lunghar Obed, Director, Coconut Development Board, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India, Regional Office, Guwahati as Special Guest. Shri Krishna Kumar, IAS was delighted to note that coconut workshop is organised in the district for the first time. He hopes the outcome of the workshop will be productive and beneficial for the farmers of the district. L. Mohori Singh assured the interested farmers in coconut cultivation to approach the horticulture department for necessary assistant. Smt. Ts. Gladny Monsang opined that suitable cultivation for coconut will be in Moreh and New Samtal area of Khengjoy block and also instilled the farmers of Chandel for cultivation of coconut as the climate is warmer and to adapt climate change and doubling their income. Dr. N. Prakash also highlighted that Chandel climate will be suitable for coconut cultivation as it becomes warmer due to climate change. He also said that cultivation of coconut will sustain their income in the long term and exhorted entrepreneurship development in coconut cultivation which will be beneficial for the farmer. Shri Lunghar Obed informed the farmers that coconut is costly in North East India as coconut production is taken up in Assam and Tripura only. He highlighted that coconut is mostly used for religious purpose and is highly demanded and said that it is also nutrient supplement for healthy living and possessed medicinal values. He added that value addition of coconut will be profitable for women entrepreneurs and SHGs and also shared the schemes available in Coconut Development Board for plantation of Coconut to the farmers. The welcome and keynote address was given by Dr. Deepak Singh, Head and Sr. Scientist. In the technical session, Dr. Chongtham Tania, Scientist (Horticulture), ICAR – Manipur Centre lectured on the topic Scientific Cultivation of Coconut and thereafter interaction programme was conducted between the farmers and the experts. The Workshop was attended by staff of KVK Chandel and 62 farmers from Moreh, New Samtal, Tengnoupal area and surrounding villages of District Head Quarter.

Six days Skill Training Programme on Mushroom Production Techniques under Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) concluded

Chandel, 4/12/2019: Six days Skill Training Programme on Mushroom Production Techniques under Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) was concluded today at KVK Chandel. The Skill Training programme was organized by KVK Chandel from 28th November to 4th December, 2019 in association with the State Agricultural Management & Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Manipur & National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad. The Valedictory function was attended by  Shri Atibal Singh, IFS (Retire) and Former Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, UP; Dr. N. Prakash, Joint Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre and Dr. Deepak Singh, Head and Sr. Scientist, KVK Chandel as the presidium members.  Altogether, 20 Rural Youths were trained on the Production of Mushroom Techniques. During the Valedictory function, shri Atibal Singh expressed that the trained youths will hone their skill in production of the mushroom and sustain their livelihood. Dr. N. Prakash highlighted that the Government of India have emphasis Skill Development and Entrepreneurship development for the youths and farmers of India and various schemes were launched for training and start up programme. He encouraged the youths and the farmers to avail the opportunities. He added that ICAR and KVKs will impart skill training as required by the youth and farmer  and asked to come forward for any technical help. The Keynote address was given by Dr. Deepak Singh, Head and Sr. Scientist. In his addressed, he informed the participants that mushroom production can be integrated with other farming activities for generating income and sustaining their livelihood. The valedictory programme was also attended by staff of KVK Chandel.

Celebration of Constitution Day

Chandel, 26/11/2019: Celebration of Constitution Day was conducted today at KVK – Chandel, Monsangpantha, Chandel to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India and to honour and acknowledge the contribution of the Founding Fathers of the Constitution. On the onset, Head incharge Dr. A. Ameeta Devi, SMS (Animal Science), KVK Chandel led the reading of the ‘Preamble’ of the Constitution. The programme was attended by extension workers from NGOs, farmers and staff of KVK Chandel. Thereafter the reading of the ‘Preamble’, awareness on ‘Fundamental Rights of the Constitution’ was organized and was also followed by interaction on the ‘Fundamental Rights’ among the staff of KVK Chandel and the participants. 32 participants including staff of KVK Chandel attended the programme

Romeo Chothe, Chief of Chandonpokpi Village and Dr. Deepak Singh, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Chandel were the presidium members. he Programme was also attended by Dr. E. Lamalaxmi Devi, Scientist (Genetics & Plant Breeding); Bhuvaneswari S, Scientist (Genetics & Plant Breeding); Dr. Konsam Sarika, (Genetics & Plant Breeding) and Staff of KVK Chandel.

Field Day on Blackgram under CFLD on pulses

Chandel, 5/11/2019: Field Day on Blackgram under CFLD on pulses 2019-20 Kharif was held at Chandropoto village, Chandel on 2019/11/05. The programme was attended by ICAR Manipur Centre, Joint Director Dr. N. Prakash and Dr. Deepak Singh, Head and Sr. Scientist, KVK Chandel. During the technical session, Dr. Kl. Levish Chongloi, ACTO (Agronomy) give lectured on Introduction of oilseeds and pulses under conservation agriculture in rice – fallow system. Later, field visit to blackgram farm was organised and interaction between the farmers and experts were also conducted. The programme was also attended by staff of KVK Chandel.
