
Chandel, 16/09/2021: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Chandel, ICAR Regional Centre for NEH Region Manipur Centre conducted a field day programme on soybean variety DSB-19 under Cluster Front Line Demonstration on Oilseeds 2021-2022 at Lambung village, Chandel district today. The programme was held at Lambung village community hall under the sponsorship of National Food Security Mission was attended by district agriculture officer Chandel Ts Gladney Monsang as chief guest, KVK Chandel head in-charge Dr Ashem Ameeta Devi as functional president and Lambung village chief Dy Alam as guest of honour. Speaking on the occasion, KVK Chandel SMS (Agronomy) Dr Kl Levish Chongloi explained that DSB-19 is a soybean variety produced by UAS Dharwad which is very suitable to the soil of Chandel and resistant to pest attack while informing that if properly grown it can yield 2-2.5 tonnes from one hectare of land within 105-115 days. KVK Chandel under the National Food Security Mission has helped self-help groups (SHGs) of Chandel in planting the DSB-19 variety in 10 hectares of land. The main aim is to increase oilseeds production and provide an alternative income generation to the farmers. As part of the programme, selective SHGs were provided seeds of winter crops. Later, field visit and inspection was done at farmlands growing DSB-19 variety. The programme was also attended by staff of KVK Chandel.








In the second session, Ts. Gladney Monsang, District Agriculture Officer, Chandel and Ng. Barbara President Women Development Society, Monsang Pantha Village graced the function as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour respectively in the International Women’s Day celebration at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chandel. Dr. Y. Prabhabati Devi, SMS (Home Science.) welcomed the dignitaries, students and the Farm Women.
She gave the keynote address on International Women’s Day. During the function, prizes were also distributed to the students for debate competition on Women Empowerment. 7 women entrepreneurs were also felicitated on the occasion.

During the programme, nutri-thali from locally available fruits and vegetables of different ethnic groups were developed. Different types of garden such as backyard nutri-garden, terrace garden and vertical garden with different biofortified varieties were popularized for getting all year round good nutrition. Krishak Ghosti for AWW and farm women were organized and nutri-seed kits sponsored by IFFCO were also distributed. Other nutri-seeds and fruits plants were also distributed for the establishment of nutri-garden at AWW centres and at KVK garden too. Package of practices for growing of different nutri-vegetables were also distributed to AWW and farm women. Nutrition gardens were established at Anganwadi centre and KVK farm under POSHAN MAAH celebration.
