CHANDEL, 30 OCTOBER 2026 : In a major push toward sustainable agriculture and direct farmer empowerment, the 24th Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) Utsav Diwas was celebrated today with a live nationwide telecast event at the ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra’s
Chandel Training Hall. The event drew a large gathering of 115 progressive farmers and PM-Kisan beneficiaries from various pockets of the district.
The special programme was graced by Dr. A. Ameeta Devi (Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Chandel), Sp. Lovejoy (District Agriculture Officer, Chandel), and Th. James (Chief of Ziontlang Village) as the presidium members. The dignitaries highlighted the critical role of central flagship schemes and grassroot-level technical interventions in doubling farmers’ income.
Coinciding with the event, KVK Chandel integrated its ongoing ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ (Save the Soil) Campaign to address pressing regional soil health issues. KVK scientists conducted an intensive technical session to sensitise farmers against the rampant overuse of chemical fertilizers. The experts delivered detailed presentations on scientific soil nourishment, resource conservation, and maintaining optimal soil microflora to guarantee high-yielding crop production.
The technical resources were delivered by a multi-disciplinary team of Subject Matter Specialists viz. Ts. Leenda Monsang (SMS, Plant Breeding), Dr. Kl. Levish Chongloi (SMS, Agronomy), Dr. K. Sonamani Singh (SMS, Agricultural Engineering) and Ps. Lavid Anal (SMS, Horticulture).
To bridge the gap between theory and practice, the scientists conducted step-by-step live method demonstrations. These included recycling paddy straw for soil mulching to conserve moisture, vermicomposting techniques for organic
waste management, and profitable mushroom cultivation for secondary income. Furthermore, the experts demonstrated scientific nursery bed preparation under Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) guidelines, as well as the deployment of protective seed bins for secure post-harvest storage.
The program concluded with the distribution of high-quality seasonal crop seed inputs to all 115 participants. This immediate input support aims to facilitate the rapid field-level adoption of the newly demonstrated Integrated Nutrient Management and double-cropping strategies.
