She encouraged farmers to adopt scientific farming practices for long-term agricultural sustainability and increased productivity.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Sp Lovejoy, DAO, Chandel, stressed the significance of soil health in achieving higher crop yields and ensuring food security. He urged farmers to make soil testing a regular practice before crop cultivation, enabling them to apply fertilizers judiciously and economically. He also appreciated the efforts of KVK Chandel and MOMA in empowering farmers through practical and need-based training programmes.
Lanlentombi, Scientist (Agro Forestry), ICAR-Manipur Centre, spoke on the role of agroforestry and green manuring in improving soil organic matter and conserving natural resources. She explained how integrating trees and green manure crops into farming systems can enhance biodiversity, improve soil quality, and contribute to climate-resilient agriculture.
During the technical session, Dr. Kl. Levish Chongloi, SMS (Agronomy), KVK Chandel, delivered a comprehensive lecture on the scientific methods of vermicompost production, selection of suitable green manure crops, and the importance of soil testing in nutrient management.
